Urban mixed-use complex wins Innovator Award

CA Student Living - FuseFuse, the CA Student Living mixed-use project in West Lafayette, Indiana, has won Student Housing Business’ Innovator Award for Best Implementation of Mixed-Use in New Development or Renovation. Shepley Bulfinch designed the ambitious project, which creates a lively small city on a large city block. The award was presented at the Interface Student Housing conference last month.

New Neurosciences Institute advances Alzheimers research

MORGANTOWN, WV – With the completion of the Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute (BRNI) on the campus of West Virginia University, researchers around the world have gained a powerful tool in their efforts to address Alzheimer’s disease, said US Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) at the dedication ceremony today.

Rockefeller established the Institute in 1999 in memory of his mother, who died of Alzheimer’s disease in 1992. As part of the building’s dedication, the US Postal Service held a first-day-of-issue ceremony for its Alzheimer’s Awareness stamp.

The completion of the 76,000 s.f. project brings together under one roof researchers who had previously been dispersed among several campuses. A gateway to the University’s health sciences ...[more]

Saint-Gobain breaks ground on R&D facility west of Boston

NORTHBORO, MA – Saint-Gobain today broke ground on a new facility to expand the French company’s Research and Development Center in central Massachusetts. Company representatives and state and local officials were among those participating in the ceremony.

Shepley Bulfinch designed the 61,000 s.f. building to promote collaboration among research teams and to encourage innovation and creativity. It is being built using Saint-Gobain building products, including window glass, ceilings, wallboard, insulation, roofing and foundation products.The building is targeting LEED Silver certification from the US Green Building Council.

Shepley Bulfinch honored for planning in urban context

The development of new zoning in a sensitive central district adjoining the University of Arizona in Tucson was one of nine Pima County projects honored by the Metropolitan Pima Alliance at its annual Common Ground awards earlier this month. The Main Gate Overlay District received top honors in in the Public Policy category.

The new district establishes a zoning overlay that preserves historic structures within its boundaries while allow new growth and development with the density necessary for the project to succeed. Student housing project underway at Purdue

Student housing - West Lafayette, INConstruction is now underway for new student housing being developed by Campus Acquisitions near Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. The project received final approval from the city of West Lafayette earlier this month.

The development will transform an under-utilized urban parcel with small commercial structures and an open parking field into a vibrant part of the city landscape. The mixed-use student housing complex establishes a compelling civic presence to this high-profile urban block, with 229 residential units with 489 beds and ground-floor retail that serves the surrounding neighborhood.

IMG_1744We recently had the honor of participating in the dedication of the new West Campus Housing District at Wabash College. For three years, Shepley Bulfinch worked with College Administration, Faculty, and Students to transform the entire west side of the college campus into dynamic living spaces within six different buildings.
