Environmental Excellence Awards for Windsor & Churn

The paired Phoenix dining destination of Windsor and Churn has taken top category honors in the 32nd annual Valley Forward Environmental Excellence Awards, which were announced on September 29. Windsor and Churn, designed by Shepley Bulfinch with redeveloper Venue Projects and Upward Projects, received Valley Forward’s Crescordia (first place) Award (Historic Preservation) and a Merit Award (Commercial/Mixed-Use).

The Valley Forward Association’s Environmental Excellence Awards (EEA) program is Arizona’s oldest and largest environmental competition.

BD+C profiles The LINK in feature on mixed-use projects

The Link in Phoenix is highlighted in a feature on successful mixed-use development that appears in the January issue of Building Design+Construction. Principal Chris Nieto discusses the project, which houses the Phoenix office of Shepley Bulfinch and a mix of retail and incubator spaces. The Link has won a number of awards over the past year, including a 2010 Merit Award from Interior Design and two Valley Forward Environmental Excellence awards.

Two environmental excellence awards for Phoenix LINK

The LINK took top honors in the 30th annual Valley Forward Environmental Excellence Awards, announced in Phoenix on October 2. The mixed-use building, which was renovated in 2008, received a Crescordia (first place) Award (Commercial/Mixed-Use) and a Merit Award (Historic Preservation).

In contrast to prevailing trends, the LINK boldly chooses to preserve the cultural identity of the structure’s facade and neighborhood while re-purposing it. Univ of Houston Health and Biomedical Sciences Building 2In a February 29 ceremony attended by members of the university community, legislative leaders, and donors, the University of Houston marked the start of construction for Health and Biomedical Sciences Building 2 (HBSB 2), designed by Shepley Bulfinch and built by Tellepsen Builders.

The building will be home to the UH College of Pharmacy, including the planned UH Center for Drug Discovery and Development; and the University of Houston’s Integrated Care Center, which will provide primary medical and behavioral health services for the underserved in ...[more]

Celebrating Arizona’s centennial with archive exhibit

Shepley Bulfinch is marking Arizona’s centennial with “Where were you in 1912?”, an exhibit of architectural renderings from the firm’s extensive archives that is now on display at the firm’s Phoenix studio. The selected works cover the period from 1910 to 1920, the decade of Arizona’s statehood. The exhibit’s highlight is a series of renderings of Phoenix’s Trinity Cathedral and Parish House.

The LINK received a Merit Award in Interior Design magazine’s Best of the Year (BOY) 2010 awards, announced in New York on December 3. The Phoenix, Arizona, mixed-use building, which was renovated in 2008, is home to Shepley Bulfinch’s Phoenix design studio.

BSA Committee Explores How Sharing Space and Resources Catalyzes Biotech Ventures

What is the relationship between space and innovation in the workplace? IT startups have been engaging in this conversation for years, leading to the creation of several successful co-working facilities. But what about other industries? Can the “incubator model” be re-imagined across entrepreneurial ventures to foster other successful innovative ecosystems?

BSA’s Committee for Research and Innovation Design overwhelmingly decided the answer is yes, at its inaugural meeting last week at LabCentral in Boston.

Lab of the Future Meetup

On Wednesday, November 2nd, Shepley Bulfinch was proud to host the Boston-area “Lab of the Future” Meetup group’s first official meetup at our office. With Lab Design as the theme for the first meetup, organizers Lindsey Christensen and Robin Shin arranged for the discussion to revolve around laboratory design happening in our own backyards at Harvard and MIT. After mingling over pizza and drinks (courtesy of the event’s co-sponsor TetraScience), attendees took their seats for the two-part presentation.
