Two Shepley Bulfinch projects were recognized for their design at the Boston Society of Architects’ 2014 Design Awards Gala on January 29.
Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven took home an honor award for healthcare facility design. Director Cathy Lange accepted the ‘Hobson’ for the project team at last week’s ceremony.
In their remarks, the design jury noted how “the architect delivered with clean, simple, and timeless design… The exterior design is very sensitive, with arrays of windows, terracotta screens, and glass stair towers combining for an elegant urban expression.”

The healing power of the award-winning Hollander Healing Garden of Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven is celebrated in the October 2011 issue of Health Facilities Management. Its recognition as a distinctive design element of note is the latest in the magazine’s monthly “Last Detail” feature.

Creating an environment that promotes healing complements the development and practice of treatments that heal. That was the thinking behind the design of Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven Hospital, which has received an Award of Merit in the Connecticut Green Building Council’s (CTGBC) 2011 Green Building Design Awards. Norman Roth, Yale-New Haven’s Senior Vice President of Administration, accepted the award at the June 21 ceremony in New Haven.
The hospital was designed by Shepley Bulfinch and landscape architects Towers|Golde, and built by Turner Construction.

The development of new zoning in a sensitive central district adjoining the University of Arizona in Tucson was one of nine Pima County projects honored by the Metropolitan Pima Alliance at its annual Common Ground awards earlier this month. The Main Gate Overlay District received top honors in in the Public Policy category.
The new district establishes a zoning overlay that preserves historic structures within its boundaries while allow new growth and development with the density necessary for the project to succeed. CINCINNATI, OH – As an article in the current issue of the Business Courier of Cincinnati notes, the building now under construction for Williams College of Business at Xavier will transform the school’s learning environment, but it won’t stop there.
