The DEC Center at Philadelphia University has received LEED Gold Certification from the US Green Building Council and a shout-out in two design publications.
“Philadelphia University is a leader in both sustainability education and practices on our campus,” said university president Stephen Spinelli Jr. “These are critically important issues in the 21st century.”

Sometimes the best lesson in environmental responsibility on campus is the academic building around you.
For Colby College, its commitment to sustainable design and practice was affirmed when the Davis Science Center received LEED Gold Certification this fall from the US Green Building Council.
The Center is Shepley Bulfinch’s eighth project to be LEED Gold Certified.

Austin College’s new IDEA Center has received LEED Gold certification, and the fact that it is the first LEED Certified building on the college’s Sherman, Texas, campus is no coincidence.
The IDEA (Inquiry, Discovery, Entrepreneurship, Access) Center embodies the College’s long-standing leadership in science education and its commitment to a new campus standard for environmentally responsive buildings. The recent dedication of Austin College’s IDEA Center in Sherman, Texas, celebrated the realization of the College’s long-standing vision for an interdisciplinary home for the sciences.
“The beautiful building behind me – and the living laboratory around its exterior – gives us good reason to celebrate,” said Austin College president Marjorie Hass before a gathering of trustees, donors, and the wider campus community.

Design is now near completion for a new science facility for Colby College, with plans to break ground later this year.
The 36,400 square foot building on the Waterville, Maine, campus, will be home to the departments of computer science, mathematics and statistics, and psychology, with teaching and research space that will include robotics and psychology labs, seminar rooms, and classrooms.
In keeping with its commitment to the environment, Colby will pursue LEED Silver certification on the new building. It is scheduled for completion in 2014.

Shepley Bulfinch has won the “Single Space” category in the 2012 Library Interior Design Competition for the Learning Commons for Atlanta University Center’s Robert W. Woodruff Library. The biennial design award is jointly sponsored by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and the American Library Association (ALA).
