Smilow Cancer Hospital dedicated

NEW HAVEN, CT – Smilow Cancer Hospital was dedicated at Yale-New Haven Hospital today, giving southern New England its most comprehensive care facility.

Speakers at the dedication of the 511,000 square foot, 14-story cancer center included Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell, Yale-New Haven Hospital president Marna Borgstrom, Yale President Richard Levin, Yale Medical School dean Robert Alpern, and philanthropist Joel Smilow (Yale ’54).

BOSTON, MA — Yale-New Haven Hospital has received approval from the City of New Haven to proceed with the construction of its new, Comprehensive Cancer Center, designed by Shepley Bulfinch.

The 14-story, $430 million Yale-New Haven Cancer Center will reinforce Yale-New Haven Hospital’s reputation as a top-ranking cancer center and provide the region with a state-of-the-art diagnostic, treatment and research facility. The Center will include 112 private rooms, 12 operating rooms, radiology services, a women’s cancer center, and complementary medicine—providing a truly integrated and seamless patient experience. Shepley Bulfinch to design Boston Children’s Hospital tower

The 11-story, 500,000 square foot building on the Longwood Medical Area campus is the largest in the hospital’s history.

Yale-New Haven Hospital opens bariatric unit

Yale-New Haven Hospital has opened the newest specialized inpatient unit for bariatric surgery patients in southern New England, allowing the hospital’s Bariatric Center to deliver tailored care for patients undergoing life-changing surgery. The dedicated 15-bed unit designed by Shepley Bulfinch is located on the hospital’s Saint Raphael’s Campus and opened with a ribbon-cutting on January 5.

The bariatric unit is an added and important resource to Yale-New Haven’s team of bariatric surgeons. The new private inpatient rooms meet the vision of creating a patient-centered healing environment with specific focus on patient safety. Beam me up: construction begins for Children’s Hospital of Michigan

The New Children's Hospital of MichiganA beam signing ceremony today signaled the official start of construction on the new Children’s Hospital of Michigan in the heart of the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) Midtown Detroit campus. Patients, their families, community members, and DMC executives and staff joined the celebration, inscribing messages and well wishes on the 1.65 ton beam, which was placed as the cornerstone of this project.

The new Children’s Hospital of Michigan will house pediatric researchers, clinicians and innovators in heart health, emergency medicine, critical care, neonatology, hematology/oncology, nephrology and other disciplines. ...[more]
