National sustainability award for Belfast university library

The McClay Library at Queen’s University Belfast, in Northern Ireland, has received the 2010 Sustainability Award from the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), it was announced today.

The Library, which won the 2010 RICS Northern Ireland award earlier this year, was chosen over category winners from the other RICS geographic regions across the UK for this prestigious national award.

At the BLDGS=DATA symposium in New York this spring, the discussion focused on strategies for harnessing the massive amount of data made available by modern technology. An increased capacity for analysis has led to immense data generation and an unprecedented ability to identify correlations. The AEC industry today is grappling with ways to make the best use of it and to develop standard processes for leveraging and sharing it.

This surge of data is changing the very nature of design as architects begin to embrace a much more data-driven approach. Advances in Building Information Modeling (BIM) allow for more thorough project documentation and the ability to share building information with contractors. ...[more]

Shepley names Voiland, Kamili, Gifford to leadership roles

Shepley Bulfinch announced that Luke Voiland AIA and Andre Kamili AIA, LEED AP have been named the firm’s newest principals, and that Matt Gifford AIA, LEED AP has been promoted to director.

“As a culture we’re ambitious about design innovation and our role in shaping the buildings of the future,” said President Carole Wedge, FAIA. “Luke, Andre, and Matt have risen to this challenge, repeatedly demonstrating that they have the drive and vision to lead the firm in this pursuit.
