In the words of one of its officers, Emma Willard epitomizes “Hollywood’s idea of a traditional European campus.” The spectacular Tudor and Gothic campus has been the setting for studio movies, the venue for a fictional contemporary private secondary school and for Oxford at the turn of the last century. Ashley Hall School wins design excellence award

The Library and Science Center at the Ashley Hall School in Charleston has received a 2010 Merit Award for Excellence in School Building and Design from CEFPI’s South Carolina chapter.

The center was dedicated in 2009, the centennial year for this independent girls’ school. The school’s rich history informed the project design, which drew inspiration from the proportion and detail of nearby McBee House, the campus’ iconic structure. Shepley named for Emma Willard School adaptive reuse program

BOSTON, MA — Shepley Bulfinch has been selected as architect for a series of adaptive reuse projects at the Emma Willard School. The projects mark the initial phases of a comprehensive master plan seeking to revitalize the historic campus located in Troy, NY.

The adaptive reuse project at the Gothic-style campus signifies the modernization of a school steeped in tradition. As 2014 marks the school’s bicentennial, campus improvements come at an appropriate and significant time in the school’s history.

Ashley Hall selects Shepley Bulfinch for new master plan

BOSTON, MA — Shepley Bulfinch Richardson and Abbott has been selected to create a new master plan for Ashley Hall, an independent girls school in Charleston, South Carolina.

The master plan will allow for modest growth in the future and include a reevaluation of the existing campus to support anticipated programmatic changes that reflect the school’s strategic plan. The master plan is scheduled to be completed in six to nine months.

The master planning team includes Jonathan Ross, AIA, Principal in Charge; Alexander Howe, AIA, Principal for Design; Susan Hoadley, AIA, Project Manager and Planner; and Anne Newman, Programmer.
