Yale-New Haven Hospital opens bariatric unit

Yale-New Haven Hospital has opened the newest specialized inpatient unit for bariatric surgery patients in southern New England, allowing the hospital’s Bariatric Center to deliver tailored care for patients undergoing life-changing surgery. The dedicated 15-bed unit designed by Shepley Bulfinch is located on the hospital’s Saint Raphael’s Campus and opened with a ribbon-cutting on January 5.

The bariatric unit is an added and important resource to Yale-New Haven’s team of bariatric surgeons. The new private inpatient rooms meet the vision of creating a patient-centered healing environment with specific focus on patient safety. Design honors for Smilow Cancer Hospital, Enga

BSA Design AwardsTwo Shepley Bulfinch projects were recognized for their design at the Boston Society of Architects’ 2014 Design Awards Gala on January 29.

Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven took home an honor award for healthcare facility design. Director Cathy Lange accepted the ‘Hobson’ for the project team at last week’s ceremony.

In their remarks, the design jury noted how “the architect delivered with clean, simple, and timeless design… The exterior design is very sensitive, with arrays of windows, terracotta screens, and glass stair towers combining for an elegant urban expression.”

Childrens Hosp of Mich Specialty Ctr - DetroitLEED certification for the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Specialty Center-Detroit sends a powerful message: helping children grow up healthy starts with a healthy environment. Detroit’s new pediatric specialty care center opens

Detroit celebrated its new home for pediatric specialty care today with blowing bubbles, a youth chorus, and a marching band at the Grand Opening of Children’s Hospital of Michigan Specialty Center on the campus of the Detroit Medical Center (DMC).

The $43 million specialty center represents the first completed structure following Vanguard Health Systems’ acquisition of DMC and marks the first major expansion for the campus in nearly 30 years.

New outpatient center for Bridgeport Hospital

Design is now underway for Bridgeport Hospital’s Park Avenue Campus Outpatient Center in Trumbull, which will provide a new level of access to quality outpatient care in southwestern Connecticut.

The center’s range of services will include a comprehensive cancer center, including medical oncology and radiation services and a breast care center, ambulatory surgery, gastroenterology services, full service radiology, a Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital Specialty Center, rehabilitation, and other physician offices. The new facility will create a welcoming, accessible outpatient care campus, joining two existing buildings that house radiation oncology and medical offices, in a park-like suburban setting.

Construction milestone for Children’s Hospital of Michigan

In a ceremony earlier today at DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan, the final steel beam was raised to the top of the new Children’s Hospital of Michigan Specialty Center-Detroit.

Children’s Hospital of Michigan President Herman Gray, MD, provided an update on the specialty center’s progress. DMC President and CEO Mike Duggan joined Dr. Gray in signing the final beam. The program concluded with the traditional placement of the beam with a live evergreen tree on top of the new building.

Groundbreaking at Children’s Hospital of Michigan

Detroit Medical Center broke ground today for the new Specialty Center for Children’s Hospital of Michigan in a ceremony attended by federal, state, and regional legislators and community leaders.
