University College Cork library wins architecture award

boole_lib_corkCHICAGO, IL – Boole Library, the postgraduate research facility at University College Cork, Ireland, has received a 2008 International Architecture Award from the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.

Built on the site of an ancient settlement the Library’s red sandstone exterior is a contemporary continuation of the settlement’s stone wall, while copper cladding and glass complete the façade. The design also responds to several massive specimen trees from the Victorian botanical garden that once occupied the site. PosterShepley Bulfinch is excited to be participating in the Urban Innovation Festival July 29-31, a 3-day urban design hack-a-thon organized by the Design Museum Boston. The Shepley Bulfinch team will be one of ten teams thinking about solutions for the MassDot Infra-Space 1, the area beneath I-93 that links Southie and the South End.

IDEA Center dedication - Nov 8, 2013The recent dedication of Austin College’s IDEA Center in Sherman, Texas, celebrated the realization of the College’s long-standing vision for an interdisciplinary home for the sciences.

“The beautiful building behind me – and the living laboratory around its exterior – gives us good reason to celebrate,” said Austin College president Marjorie Hass before a gathering of trustees, donors, and the wider campus community.

New biomedical sciences center dedicated in Houston

Healt & Biomedical Sciences BldgThe University of Houston celebrated its broadening impact in health care research and care with the dedication of the Health and Biomedical Sciences Building on February 5.

Speaking at the ceremony, University of Houston president and chancellor Renu Khator noted the center’s role in advancing research and education for the University of Houston, a Carnegie Foundation Tier One Research Institution.

Celebrating Arizona’s centennial with archive exhibit

Shepley Bulfinch is marking Arizona’s centennial with “Where were you in 1912?”, an exhibit of architectural renderings from the firm’s extensive archives that is now on display at the firm’s Phoenix studio. The selected works cover the period from 1910 to 1920, the decade of Arizona’s statehood. The exhibit’s highlight is a series of renderings of Phoenix’s Trinity Cathedral and Parish House.

Shepley Bulfinch welcomed healthcare planning and design leader Mario Vieira AIA, who has joined the firm as a principal.
