Bishop Fenwick Place, Xavier University’s new residential and dining complex, was dedicated last month in a ceremony that celebrated the transformational residence and dining complex on the Cincinnati campus.
Fenwick Place is home to 535 sophomores with suite-style living in four connected wings that rise above a green terrace. The terrace also serves as the roof of Hoff Dining Commons, the university’s new central dining facility. As its name promises, HBX Live is a virtual classroom designed to reproduce the intimacy and synchronous interaction of Harvard Business School’s famed case study method in a digital environment.
Participants from around the globe can log in concurrently and join real-time, case-based sessions with HBS faculty who teach from the HBX Live studio, located in the Boston-based facility of public broadcaster WGBH. In the custom-designed studio, a high-resolution video wall mimics the amphitheater-style seating of an HBS classroom, where up to 60 participants are displayed on individual screens simultaneously. One in an occasional series
Shepley Bulfinch’s technology department manages tools and culture, with a goal of trying to create the intimate connection between ideas and how we communicate them as much as possible and have these very complex systems run in the background without the designer needing to worry or know about them. We want to be like electricity. Or rather, we want to be like paper and pencil.

Shepley Bulfinch’s open and collaborative Boston office and design studio wins kudos in the newly published book, Innovations in Office Design: The Critical Influence Approach to Effective Work Environments, by Diane Stegmeier (John Wiley & Sons, Inc).
The firm’s Seaport District office is cited as an exemplar of workplace design, inspiring collaboration, information exchange, and the generation of new ideas. BOSTON, MA — The new, 55,000 s.f. Zorn Dining Commons, which was completed in October 2005, can accommodate 900 students, features a marketplace servery with five major stations, a faculty dining room with its own servery, a “grab & go” with a separate entrance, a production kitchen that can handle campus wide catering, administrative offices and a small meeting room. The large dining hall can be partitioned off to allow 400-person events apart from and during the daily use of the facility.

BOSTON, MA — Shepley Bulfinch has been selected as architect for a series of adaptive reuse projects at the Emma Willard School. The projects mark the initial phases of a comprehensive master plan seeking to revitalize the historic campus located in Troy, NY.
The adaptive reuse project at the Gothic-style campus signifies the modernization of a school steeped in tradition. As 2014 marks the school’s bicentennial, campus improvements come at an appropriate and significant time in the school’s history.
