Bailey Architects joins Shepley Bulfinch

Shepley Bulfinch architects announced today that Bailey Architects of Houston has joined their growing national design practice. Adding a Houston office gives Shepley Bulfinch a strong presence in Texas, where significant growth is projected in the healthcare and education sectors, and greater visibility in Houston, one of the country’s fastest-growing cities.

Bailey Architects is now the Houston office of Shepley Bulfinch. The acquisition cements a long-standing relationship that spans more than a decade. Shepley Bulfinch and Bailey have worked together on a series of projects in Texas, including work on Fondren Library at Rice University and two major biomedical science buildings for the University of Houston. Shepley awarded major Banner Health project in Tucson

Banner Health has awarded the contract for the design of the new Banner – University Medical Center hospital facility in Tucson to Shepley Bulfinch architects of Phoenix, in association with GLHN Architects & Engineers, Inc. of Tucson. The 11-story tower is scheduled for completion in 2019.

This news follows Banner’s acquisition of the University of Arizona Medical Center, which was finalized on February 27.

When Interior Design magazine named Brody Learning Commons an honoree in the 2013 Best of Year Awards last week, it honored a place that the Johns Hopkins University community has called home – and nicknamed the BLC – since its doors opened in the fall of 2012.

Carole WedgeShepley Bulfinch president Carole Wedge FAIA, LEED AP received the Award of Excellence at the 14th annual Women in Design Awards, which was hosted at the Architecture Boston Expo (ABX) this week.

Harvard Innovation Lab logoShortly after the buzz around the first anniversary of the opening of the Harvard Innovation Lab, Interior Design magazine announced more good news: a 2012 Best of Year (BOY) Merit Award for the Innovation Lab’s design in the Education category.

Since it opened in late 2011, the i-lab has quickly become a hub for entrepreneurs from across the campus. Ambitions for it are unbounded, as noted in an editorial in the Boston Globe in November 2012, “Success of Harvard’s i-lab could buoy the entire region.”

Dining at the heart of community: Postino East opens

A March 17 community benefit marked the opening of Postino East, a neighborhood dining spot in the heart of downtown Gilbert, Arizona. The 2,700 square foot renovation in the southern end of the former Grainbelt Building is the third locale for Postino WineCafe and the second collaboration between Shepley Bulfinch and Upward Projects.
