Detroit Medical Center broke ground today for the new Specialty Center for Children’s Hospital of Michigan in a ceremony attended by federal, state, and regional legislators and community leaders. They joined Vanguard Health System’s Vice President Keith Pitts, Detroit Medical Center CEO Mike Duggan, and Children’s Hospital of Michigan President Herman Gray, MD, for the event.

Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin has won a National Honor Award from the National Terrazzo & Mosaic Association for the terrazzo floors in the hospital’s new West Tower in suburban Milwaukee, which opened in April 2009.
The hospital’s floors, which depict natural elements, were created as a way to transport children from the hospital setting to places in nature, with imagery drawn from botanical and wild life of Wisconsin. LEED certification for the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Specialty Center-Detroit sends a powerful message: helping children grow up healthy starts with a healthy environment. The Center, which was completed in 2012, is the first LEED-certified project on the hospital’s urban campus.
