Detroit’s new pediatric specialty care center opens

Detroit celebrated its new home for pediatric specialty care today with blowing bubbles, a youth chorus, and a marching band at the Grand Opening of Children’s Hospital of Michigan Specialty Center on the campus of the Detroit Medical Center (DMC).

The $43 million specialty center represents the first completed structure following Vanguard Health Systems’ acquisition of DMC and marks the first major expansion for the campus in nearly 30 years.

Three pediatric healthcare clients named among America’s best

Three of Shepley Bulfinch’s current pediatric healthcare clients were among those named in US News and World Report’s annual survey of the Best Children’s Hospitals in the US. The survey ranks the top 30 pediatric facilities in each of ten specialty areas.

Children’s Hospital Boston, Children’s Hospital of Michigan, and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, were recognized in a number of categories. Children’s Hospital Boston, a client since 1914, was one of just ten nationwide to be ranked in the top 30 in all ten specialties. Shepley’s new bed tower for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin opened in March, and construction is scheduled to begin in 2010 on a new physicians’ office building ...[more]

MILWAUKEE, WI – The signs are up, the art is hung, and the ribbon has been cut to mark the opening today of the 12-story, 425,000 sf patient tower tower expansion for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Children’s CFO Tim Birkenstock calls the new tower “an essential step needed to keep pace with our patient service demands” for one of the country’s busiest pediatric medical centers, with more than 25,000 inpatient admissions each year.

The new facility, which began construction in 2005, features a larger pediatric intensive care unit and an expanded Herma Heart Center, as well as patient rooms integrated with the latest medical technologies. Responding to the important role ...[more]

Childrens Hosp of Mich Specialty Ctr - DetroitChildren’s Hospital of Michigan’s Specialty Center in Detroit is designed and built to create a culture of wellness for a new generation of children in Detroit. That’s the gist of “An environment for healing,” a feature on the Center that appears in the October 2013 issue of CAM magazine. The Construction Association of Michigan profiled the Specialty Center as one of its Projects of the Year.

Beam me up: construction begins for Children’s Hospital of Michigan

The New Children's Hospital of MichiganA beam signing ceremony today signaled the official start of construction on the new Children’s Hospital of Michigan in the heart of the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) Midtown Detroit campus. Patients, their families, community members, and DMC executives and staff joined the celebration, inscribing messages and well wishes on the 1.65 ton beam, which was placed as the cornerstone of this project.

The new Children’s Hospital of Michigan will house pediatric researchers, clinicians and innovators in heart health, emergency medicine, critical care, neonatology, hematology/oncology, nephrology and other disciplines. ...[more]

The 11-story, 500,000 square foot building on the Longwood Medical Area campus is the largest in the hospital’s history.
