UnCommon phenomenon: LEED Gold for CA Student Housing project in Eugene

LEED GoldUnCommon, the student housing complex in Eugene, Oregon, developed by CA Student Living and designed by Shepley Bulfinch, has received LEED Gold Certification from the US Green Building Council. This is CA’s first LEED Certified project and the latest in Shepley Bulfinch’s portfolio of highly sustainable buildings.

“We’re responding to changes in the urban housing market for college students and graduates,” said JJ Smith, COO of CA Student Living. “They’re looking for a smaller environmental footprint and well-designed spaces close to the life of the campus and the city.”

The development of new zoning in a sensitive central district adjoining the University of Arizona in Tucson was one of nine Pima County projects honored by the Metropolitan Pima Alliance at its annual Common Ground awards earlier this month. The Main Gate Overlay District received top honors in in the Public Policy category.

The new district establishes a zoning overlay that preserves historic structures within its boundaries while allow new growth and development with the density necessary for the project to succeed. Celebrating Arizona’s centennial with archive exhibit

Shepley Bulfinch is marking Arizona’s centennial with “Where were you in 1912?”, an exhibit of architectural renderings from the firm’s extensive archives that is now on display at the firm’s Phoenix studio. The selected works cover the period from 1910 to 1920, the decade of Arizona’s statehood. The exhibit’s highlight is a series of renderings of Phoenix’s Trinity Cathedral and Parish House.

Shepley-Lake Flato team in finals for new Austin library

AUSTIN, TX – The architecture team of Lake|Flato and Shepley Bulfinch was one of three finalists to present to Austin City Council on October 23 for the design and construction of the city’s new 250,000 sf Central Library.
