Design award for Hamline’s Anderson University Center

Hamline - south facadeShepley Bulfinch’s design of the Anderson University Center at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota has won a Facilities Design Award from the Association of College Unions International (ACUI), it was announced at ACUI’s annual conference last week.

“This award honors more than the design of the Anderson Center,” said Shepley Bulfinch project designer Luke Voiland. “It recognizes the value of a design and planning process that brought everyone to the table.”

Design notes: the 2012 Fellowship Poster

I want to share some notes on the 2012 Summer Design Fellowship poster and some thoughts on design communication. But before I do here’s just a brief introduction for those who are new to the program. Years ago the firm established a ten-week paid Design Fellowship for an exceptional architecture student to work with us over the summer. The application is open to all students who are, at date of submission, enrolled in an accredited professional degree program in the field of architecture.

Milestone for Anderson Student Center

A symbolic ‘topping off’ ceremony on November 4  marked the installation of the last piece of structural steel for the Anderson Student Center at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The 240,000 square foot project, which is scheduled to open in early 2012, will replace many of the services currently housed in the university’s Murray-Herrick Campus Center.

Go-ahead for St. Thomas student center

The University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, has given the green light for construction of the 210,000 s.f. Anderson Student Center, with plans to complete the project by the end of 2011.

The center will draw students crossing from the Quad into a lively three-story atrium filled with light and activity (image, right). Jane Canney, the University’s vice president of student affairs, said, “The student center will be our living room… the real heart of the campus.”
