Lahey Clinic dedicates new cancer center

The Sophia Gordon Cancer Center at Lahey Clinic was dedicated in a ceremony today in Burlington, Massachusetts. The 50,000 s.f. outpatient cancer center includes a radiation therapy suite and hematology suite, as well as a patient educaiton and family resource area.

The new center is a major part of the Lahey Clinic’s 190,000 s.f. expansion project. In addition to designing the Gordon Cancer Center, Shepley Bulfinch created the master plan for the Lahey Clinic campus in Burlington.

Southwest’s largest naturopathic clinic opens in Tempe

The Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and Health Sciences (SCNM) opened its new medical center in Tempe, Arizona, with a dedication on October 8, followed by a public open house the next day. Political and community leaders joined SCNM president Dr. Paul Mittman for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The medical center, located in the college’s main campus, is home to the largest naturopathic medical clinic in the Southwest. The center currently serves over 20,000 patients each year, with the capacity to accommodate up to 75,000.

The University of Houston’s new Health and Biomedical Sciences Building 2 is well underway, and set to be completed in late 2017. The new, multi-disciplinary facility that will feature specialized research space, labs, offices, an expanded library, and an integrated healthcare clinic to serve the University of Houston community as well as surrounding community members. Healthcare clients come out on top in US News rankings

A number of Shepley Bulfinch’s current and recent healthcare clients came out high in the 2010 rankings in US News & World Report’s annual survey of US hospitals and pediatric hospitals. The survey ranks the top 30 adult and pediatric facilities in each of ten specialty areas.

Those honored in 2010 include Massachusetts General Hospital (a repeat in the survey’s ‘honor roll’); the University of Michigan Hospital and Health Centers; Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center; Lahey Clinic; and Yale-New Haven Hospital. Anne Garrity named in 20 Making a Difference in Healthcare Design

Senior healthcare interior designer Anne Garrity was named one of “Twenty Making a Difference” in the December issue of Healthcare Design magazine.

This is Healthcare Design’s second annual feature, which provides peer recognition for those who are advancing the design of healthcare facilities.

Anne brings a unique understanding of the importance of creating healthcare interiors that break down institutional imagery. Her most recent work includes the new Cardiovascular Center at the University of Michigan. A podcast is being developed to narrate the hospital’s art collection for visitors and patients.
