LEED Gold for Phillips Academy wellness center

LEED 2015 GOLD medallion 150x150The US Green Building Council has awarded LEED Gold Certification to The Rebecca M. Sykes Wellness Center at Phillips Academy. It is the second LEED-certified building on the school’s Andover, Massachusetts, campus.

The sustainable design of the 17,000 square foot center reinforces the Center’s emphasis on health and well-being. “This is another testament to this beautiful new Wellness Center supporting Andover’s larger initiatives in individual and community health,” said Phillips Academy Medical Director Dr. Amy Patel.

Maya Lin and Shepley Bulfinch chosen to redesign Smith College Library

Maya Lin, whose balance between art and architecture is evident in her very first project, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and throughout her career, and Shepley Bulfinch, with an impressive portfolio of higher education projects, have been selected to partner on the re-imagining and redesign of Smith College’s Neilson Library. The project, which will be Lin’s first college library and one of the most significant capital projects in Smith College’s history, is expected to break ground in 2017.

Hesburgh Library renovation emphasizes connectivity

Notre Dame announced the start of the interior renovation of the University’s iconic Hesburgh Library later this month, at the end of a year in which the Library celebrated its 50th anniversary.

“The 50th anniversary gave us the opportunity to both celebrate a remarkable past and build upon this foundation to create a leading research library for the 21st century,” said Notre Dame president Rev. John I. Jenkins, CSC. “Now is the time to make a transformational leap forward through a bold renovation that will keep Hesburgh Library the centerpiece of Notre Dame’s intellectual pursuits and an enduring symbol of our academic excellence.”

Environmental honors for DEC Center

LEED GoldThe DEC Center at Philadelphia University has received LEED Gold Certification from the US Green Building Council and a shout-out in two design publications.

“Philadelphia University is a leader in both sustainability education and practices on our campus,” said university president Stephen Spinelli Jr. “These are critically important issues in the 21st century.”
