Robert H.N. Ho Science CenterHamilton, NY – The Robert H.N. Ho Science Center was dedicated in a September 15 ceremony at Colgate University. Described as “transformative” for the University both in form and in academic approach to the sciences, the 121,200 s.f. Center is designed to encourage interdisciplinary scientific research, as well as collaborative teaching and learning. It houses 40 research labs and 13 teaching labs, as well as the University’s environmental studies program and the departments of geography, geology, physics and astronomy, and part of the biology department.

IDEA Center dedication - Nov 8, 2013The recent dedication of Austin College’s IDEA Center in Sherman, Texas, celebrated the realization of the College’s long-standing vision for an interdisciplinary home for the sciences.

“The beautiful building behind me – and the living laboratory around its exterior – gives us good reason to celebrate,” said Austin College president Marjorie Hass before a gathering of trustees, donors, and the wider campus community.

If we build it, will they come? This was one of the many questions posed this spring at the Learning Spaces Collaboratory Forum. Shepley Bulfinch, along with other national design and academic leaders, was invited to participate in a series of roundtables, concluding with a national forum in Washington, D.C. The challenge was lofty: to discuss and determine what is “now and next” in classroom design and instruction.
