Yale-New Haven Hospital opens bariatric unit

Yale-New Haven Hospital has opened the newest specialized inpatient unit for bariatric surgery patients in southern New England, allowing the hospital’s Bariatric Center to deliver tailored care for patients undergoing life-changing surgery. The dedicated 15-bed unit designed by Shepley Bulfinch is located on the hospital’s Saint Raphael’s Campus and opened with a ribbon-cutting on January 5.

The bariatric unit is an added and important resource to Yale-New Haven’s team of bariatric surgeons. The new private inpatient rooms meet the vision of creating a patient-centered healing environment with specific focus on patient safety. The New Children's Hospital of MichiganA beam signing ceremony today signaled the official start of construction on the new Children’s Hospital of Michigan in the heart of the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) Midtown Detroit campus. Patients, their families, community members, and DMC executives and staff joined the celebration, inscribing messages and well wishes on the 1.65 ton beam, which was placed as the cornerstone of this project.

The new Children’s Hospital of Michigan will house pediatric researchers, clinicians and innovators in heart health, emergency medicine, critical care, neonatology, hematology/oncology, nephrology and other disciplines. ...[more]

Shepley Bulfinch to design Boston Children’s Hospital tower

Conceptual sketch_BCH clinical tower_150 pxShepley Bulfinch, a national leader in pediatric healthcare design, has been selected to design the new clinical care tower for Boston Children’s Hospital. The 11-story, 500,000 square foot building on the Longwood Medical Area campus is the largest in the hospital’s history.

BSA Design AwardsTwo Shepley Bulfinch projects were recognized for their design at the Boston Society of Architects’ 2014 Design Awards Gala on January 29.

Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven took home an honor award for healthcare facility design. Director Cathy Lange accepted the ‘Hobson’ for the project team at last week’s ceremony.

In their remarks, the design jury noted how “the architect delivered with clean, simple, and timeless design… The exterior design is very sensitive, with arrays of windows, terracotta screens, and glass stair towers combining for an elegant urban expression.”

Ground broken for Oishei Children’s Hospital

Oishei Children's HospitalHealth care for the children and families of Western New York took a major leap forward October 8, as Kaleida Health held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the new John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital, designed by Shepley Bulfinch. The new hospital will replace the current Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.

Physicians, employees, donors, elected officials, and other dignitaries were on hand to kick off construction on the new $270 million facility. Lt. Governor Robert Duffy was the event’s keynote speaker.

ETCH groundbreaking - children with shovelsEast Tennessee Children’s Hospital (ETCH) hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on August 19, marking the start of construction for a major expansion on its Knoxville campus.
