Marquette Law School building breaks ground May 22

Milwaukee, WI – Marquette University will celebrate the groundbreaking of its new Law School building in a ceremony on May 22. The Board of Trustees gave final approval for the project on May 7.

“We recognize the importance the Law School has always had in educating lawyers of the highest skill and ethical caliber,” said Marquette president Rev. Robert A. Wild, SJ. “This new building will allow our first-rate faculty to deliver the very best in legal education to a new generation.”

The building will be named Eckstein Hall in honor of the $51 million donation from Raymond and Katherine Eckstein, an alumni couple. The 200,000 sf building will include two courtrooms, ...[more]

University library opens in Ireland

boole_lib_corkCork, Ireland – Mary Hanafin, TD, Ireland’s Minister for Education and Science, dedicated the newly expanded and renovated Boole Library, Ireland’s leading research institute, today in a ceremony at University College Cork. In her remarks, the Minister called the project a “great example of Ireland’s commitment to upgrading facilities for research nationwide.”

This addition and renovation, which includes a new postgraduate research library, significantly expands and upgrades Boole , already the largest library outside Dublin, with integrated technologies, as well as additional conservation, reading, and exhibition space.

Elise Woodward receives 2007 Women in Design Award

Boston, MA – Elise Woodward, AIA LEED AP, was honored at Build Boston today, where she received the Award of Excellence at the eighth annual Women in Design conference.

The second woman architect at Shepley Bulfinch when she joined in 1981 and the third to be named a principal, Elise is a designer, mentor, and convener. As a leader of the firm, she served for six years on its five-member board of directors, four as board chair. Her rich and varied experience directing and shaping science, education, and healthcare projects has included healthcare and academic science and research buildings from Maine to California. VCU completes $41-million Massey Cancer Center labs

BOSTON, MA — Massey Cancer Center’s new Research Laboratory at Virginia Commonwealth University opened its doors on May 6th in honor of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Goodwin, Jr. for their generous support.

Designed by Shepley Bulfinch Richardson and Abbott, the Goodwin lab facility is designed to promote greater collaboration and attract new researchers to its growing research program. The VCU Massey Cancer Center, one of 61 National Cancer Institute-designated research institutions, is VCU’s focal point for basic and clinical cancer research, education, prevention and treatment.

Shepley Bulfinch selected for new work at Lovett School

BOSTON, MA – Shepley Bulfinch has been selected by The Lovett School to create an updated master plan; provide programming and conceptual design for all competitive sports, physical education and recreational activities on campus; and provide programming and conceptual design for a new Middle School.

The master planning team includes Jonathan Ross, AIA, Principal in Charge; Alexander Howe, AIA, Principal for Design; and Jeanne Carey, AIA, Project Manager.

Shepley Bulfinch also designed The Lovett School Lower School and Upper School.

The Lovett School is an independent, co-education school with 1,550 students in Grades K through 12. Located in Atlanta, Georgia, the school was founded in 1926.
