Follows architecture firm’s work on adjacent Harvard Innovation Lab (i-lab)
Shepley Bulfinch, a national architecture firm known for design excellence and innovation with offices in Boston, Houston and Phoenix, announced today the completion of the Pagliuca Harvard Life Lab at Harvard University in Allston, Mass. The Pagliuca Harvard Life Lab team has been busy over the last several months, getting ready for this state-of-the-art wet lab environment to become home to a curated community of 17 growth-stage life sciences startups. The Boston Preservation Alliance has selected Harvard Medical School’s Gordon Hall Window Restoration to receive a 2013 Boston Preservation Achievement Award.
Gordon Hall is the iconic form that defines the Harvard Medical School Quadrangle, which was designed by Shepley Bulfinch (then Shepley, Rutan, and Coolidge) in 1904. Restoration of the windows and the exterior of this landmark building gave Gordon Hall the elegance and clarity of its original architectural form, injecting a lasting historic presence into this vibrant modern hub of science, medical discovery, patient care, and education.

Renovation and new construction at 184-year-old men’s college increases on-campus housing capacity by 25%

On Wednesday, November 2nd, Shepley Bulfinch was proud to host the Boston-area “Lab of the Future” Meetup group’s first official meetup at our office. With Lab Design as the theme for the first meetup, organizers Lindsey Christensen and Robin Shin arranged for the discussion to revolve around laboratory design happening in our own backyards at Harvard and MIT. After mingling over pizza and drinks (courtesy of the event’s co-sponsor TetraScience), attendees took their seats for the two-part presentation.

Print magazine has selected the graphic design of the Harvard Innovation Lab as a winner in the 2012 Regional Design Annual, which has just been published. The design was the work of Shepley graphic designers Dan Vlahos and Erin Deeley.

It’s dedication day for Harvard’s innovation lab in Boston, but the buzz has been building all fall.
Shepley worked with Harvard to fast-track the creation of Batten Hall and the i-lab, transforming the old studios of WGBH into a high-energy space for campus and community. Say goodbye to the studios where Julia Child and Zoom! were filmed and hello to workshops and wide-open (and wired) spaces.
Or should we say ‘Hi,’ in the spirit of the i-lab’s signature logo, which Shepley created as part of the innovation lab’s brand?

The Harvard Innovation Lab passed a major milestone last week when the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) approved plans to transform the former WGBH building in the Allston section of Boston into an environment that advances collaboration and entrepreneurship.
“The Innovation Lab is an entirely new model for Harvard,” said Gabe Handel, Managing Director of the Dean’s office at Harvard Business School, in a release issued on Friday. “It is an innovation in and of itself.”
