Shepley repeats with strong national rankings for architecture, green design

Architectural Record and Engineering News-Record magazines once again ranked Shepley Bulfinch among the top architecture and green design firms in the US in their latest annual surveys published in the two magazines this week. The rankings are based on revenues in 2009, a challenging year for the industry.

Architectural Record put Shepley at #79 among A/E/C firms based on total architectural revenue in its survey of the country’s 250 leading design firms.

Concord Hospital receives LEED certification

CONCORD, NH – Concord Hospital has been awarded LEED certification for its East & North Wing addition and renovation, the first hospital in northern New England to do so.

The project’s design maximizes daylight and views with green roofs and courtyard gardens while skylights bring light deep into treatment spaces. The canopied entrance includes a waiting area that overlooks a garden and the drop-off area and a roof garden that is accessible from the ICU. On patient floors almost all spaces have access to natural light and views, while garden courtyards create a buffer from the road. Architectural Record, ENR name Shepley a top US design firm

Shepley Bulfinch was “three for three” in surveys that appeared in Architectural Record and Engineering News-Record (ENR) magazines this week for top design and green design firms, and top firms in the US, based on firms’ 2008 revenues.

Architectural Record put Shepley at #89 in its survey of the 250 leading design firms in the US, while ENR’s survey of the 500 top firms, which placed Shepley at #338 (2008 rank: #359) included all responding firms’ architecture, engineering, and construction revenues.

Modern Healthcare ranks Shepley in Top 40 Architectural Firms

Modern Healthcare ranked Shepley Bulfinch 29th in the country’s top healthcare architecture firms in the 2008 Construction and Design Survey, published in the magazine’s March 16 issue.

Among the firm’s healthcare work underway or completed in 2008 were projects for Yale-New Haven Hospital; Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary; Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center; Massachusetts General Hospital; and Sherman Hospital in Elgin, Illinois. Sherman Hospital is one of the world’s largest geothermal healthcare projects under construction.

The firm began its healthcare design practice in 1896. Its landmark projects include the iconic New York Hospital-Cornell Medical School and Peking Union Medical College in China.

Shepley Bulfinch ranked third nationally in 2007 hospital construction

Shepley Bulfinch was ranked third among the top architectural firms in the US in terms of the dollar value of new healthcare projects now underway, according to the September 2007 issue of Health Facilities Management.

The five leading states in new hospital construction now underway – Texas, California, Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois – are home to several of the firm’s clients, including the University of Michigan, which opened its new Cardiovascular Center in June, and Sherman Hospital, which is currently the largest geothermal hospital project in the United States.
