Geothermal lake wins $956k US Department of Energy award

WASHINGTON, DC – Sherman Hospital has received a $956,000 award from the US Department of Energy for its geothermal lake at the hospital’s new campus in Elgin, Illinois. The hospital is scheduled to open at the end of the year. In announcing the receipt of the award today, Sherman president and CEO Rick Floyd said, “Sherman Health is honored to receive this award… Our lake is environmentally sound, and we look forward to supporting green energy initiatives in our community and throughout the country.”

The award was funded through the FY08 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act, and was designated as one of 117 congressionally directed projects within the Department’s Office ...[more]

Beam me up: construction begins for Children’s Hospital of Michigan

The New Children's Hospital of MichiganA beam signing ceremony today signaled the official start of construction on the new Children’s Hospital of Michigan in the heart of the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) Midtown Detroit campus. Patients, their families, community members, and DMC executives and staff joined the celebration, inscribing messages and well wishes on the 1.65 ton beam, which was placed as the cornerstone of this project.

The new Children’s Hospital of Michigan will house pediatric researchers, clinicians and innovators in heart health, emergency medicine, critical care, neonatology, hematology/oncology, nephrology and other disciplines. ...[more]

Ground broken for Wisconsin medical campus

JANESVILLE, WI – Ground was broken today for the new SSM-DHS Medical Campus, designed by Shepley Bulfinch in association with Erdman, a Cogdell Spencer Company. The 270,000 sf, $140 million healthcare facility will be built on a 50-acre site owned by SSM Health Care of Wisconsin (SSM), and Dean Health System (DHS) of Madison.

The campus, which will comprise the 150,000 sf St Mary’s Janesville Hospital and an adjacent 120,000 sf physician office complex, will offer the community a choice of healthcare services inside new technologically advanced facilities. Construction begins on Mid Coast Hospital expansion

BRUNSWICK, ME – Ground was broken today for the 35,392 s.f. expansion of Mid Coast Hospital, in a 13-shovel ceremony led by hospital president Herb Paris.

The project, which adds 25 percent to the size of the original hospital, will give Mid Coast a new and expanded Emergency Department and 18 private patient rooms in the hospital’s medical surgical unit. The current emergency room will be renovated to provide additional space fo rhte hospital’s diagnostics center.

The expansion will continue Shepley Bulfinch’s design of the original hospital and medical office building, completed in 2001.

The expansion is scheduled to open in 2010.

Concord Hospital dedicates East and North Wings

CONCORD, NH – More than 250 people celebrated the grand opening of the East and North Wing Additions of Concord Hospital yesteday. More than 250 guests attended the ribbon cutting and toured the new facility.

Hospital president and CEO Mike Green spoke about how the larger facilities help healthcare professionals improve privacy, efficiency, and comfort while enhancing the hospital’s ability to provide quality medical care.

Guests were invited to tour the 37-bed Emergency Department, the 20-room Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the20-room Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
