Urban mixed-use complex wins Innovator Award

CA Student Living - FuseFuse, the CA Student Living mixed-use project in West Lafayette, Indiana, has won Student Housing Business’ Innovator Award for Best Implementation of Mixed-Use in New Development or Renovation. Shepley Bulfinch designed the ambitious project, which creates a lively small city on a large city block. The award was presented at the Interface Student Housing conference last month.

American Libraries celebrates Berry Library design

Salem State - Berry Library stairThe signature red stair of the new Frederick Berry Library and Learning Commons at Salem State is prominently featured in American Libraries’ 2014 Library Design Showcase, which appears in the magazine’s September/October issue.

The floating form of the cantilevered stair reinforces the emphasis of the design on space and openness. A pleated glass wall overlooks the new academic quad, which conceals a 48-well geothermal field below.

Matthew Bohne named 2014 Summer Design Fellow

Shepley Bulfinch has named Matthew Bohne as the firm’s 2014 Summer Design Fellow. Matt, who will begin his final year in the B.Arch./B.F.A. program at the Rhode Island School of Design, was selected from a highly competitive pool of candidates.

During his ten-week Fellowship in Shepley’s Boston office, he will be addressing a series of design challenges on a range of scales early in the planning and design process.

Matt’s architectural education is informed by his background in graphic design, using composition on a two-dimensional plane to clearly convey three-dimensional qualities. In the past year, he has explored designing through drawing, and the use of manual and digital drawing techniques ...[more]

East Tennessee Children's HospitalIn a survey released today, Modern Healthcare ranked Shepley Bulfinch 43rd among the top healthcare architecture firms in the country in the magazine’s 2014 Construction and Design Survey.

No surprise here, given our broad healthcare portfolio.
