Third Annual Design Share centers on people

Design_Share_PosterAs part of Shepley Bulfinch’s mission to drive design beyond perceived boundaries, we strive daily to engage, critique, challenge and support one another across practices and offices. This summer, we continued to push further by hosting our Third Annual Design Share. In addition to devoting time to connect internally on some of our recent projects, we invited experts from multiple disciplines outside the AEC industry to discuss their processes and practices. While presenters’ professions varied, as expected, common threads around design – more so, good design – clearly emerged.

Map the journey

Our Fellowship gives a promising architecture student the opportunity to spend ten weeks this summer immersed in real design problems and collaborative solutions in our Boston design studio. Yin Liu named 2015 Summer Design Fellow

Yin Liu - SDF submissionShepley Bulfinch welcomes Rhode Island School of Design architecture student Yin Liu, who is spending ten weeks this summer in Boston as the firm’s 2015 Summer Design Fellow. So far, she’s been working with teams on a range of design challenges, including the current renovation of the Boston office.

As a designer, Yin is drawn to the temporal qualities of space, as uses and forms shift over time. This is an area she hopes to explore in her thesis project next year, as she explores the development of tools and technologies that track how buildings are developed ...[more]

Lab Design profiles facilities at Davidson, U Houston

Univ of Houston Health and Biomedical Sciences Building 2Two Shepley Bulfinch academic science and research facilities now underway are featured in the June issue of Lab Design News.

The Health and Biomedical Sciences Building 2 (HBSB 2), which integrates teaching, research, and clinical programs is the second phase of the University of Houston’s development of its biomedical campus. It is scheduled for completion in mid-2017. The Shepley Bulfinch-designed Health and Biomedical Sciences Building 1 was completed in 2013.

Urban mixed-use complex wins Innovator Award

CA Student Living - FuseFuse, the CA Student Living mixed-use project in West Lafayette, Indiana, has won Student Housing Business’ Innovator Award for Best Implementation of Mixed-Use in New Development or Renovation. Shepley Bulfinch designed the ambitious project, which creates a lively small city on a large city block. The award was presented at the Interface Student Housing conference last month.
