The Kanbar Campus Center at Philadelphia University was one of four student centers to receive the 2007 Facility Design Award of Excellence at the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) annual conference in Atlanta last month.
Entries were judged not only on the basis of the facilities’ appearance, but also on the process used to arrive at the design and how the new or renovated facility has impacted the campus.

Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin has won a National Honor Award from the National Terrazzo & Mosaic Association for the terrazzo floors in the hospital’s new West Tower in suburban Milwaukee, which opened in April 2009.
The hospital’s floors, which depict natural elements, were created as a way to transport children from the hospital setting to places in nature, with imagery drawn from botanical and wild life of Wisconsin. Shepley Bulfinch creative director Dan Vlahos’ design of the firm’s 2009 Summer Design Fellowship poster took top honors last night in the annual AIGA B(oNE) Awards ceremony for the best graphic design in New England.
The poster was one of the category winners in the Best of New England (BoNE) awards, which was sponsored by the New England chapter of AIGA, the professional association for design and held at the Bakalar Gallery at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt).

Boston, MA – Elise Woodward, AIA LEED AP, was honored at Build Boston today, where she received the Award of Excellence at the eighth annual Women in Design conference.
The second woman architect at Shepley Bulfinch when she joined in 1981 and the third to be named a principal, Elise is a designer, mentor, and convener. As a leader of the firm, she served for six years on its five-member board of directors, four as board chair. Shepley Bulfinch’s renovation of the South Rotunda of the Phoenix Financial Center took home top honors in the 2015 Interior Design magazine Best of Year (BOY) Awards in the Designer’s Own Office category. Winners were announced at Interior Design’s Best of Year Gala in New York last week.
The Phoenix Financial Center was designed by Peruvian-born architect W.A. Sarmiento and completed in 1964, and today is one of the city’s most prominent mid-century buildings.

The Hobson Award is the highest level of design award given annually by the Boston Society of Architects. The AIAS Chapter at MassArt and the BSA have fostered a wonderful, collaborative relationship over the past five years. This relationship led to a phone call last fall asking if our chapter would design and create the next Hobson award.

Two Shepley Bulfinch projects were recognized for their design at the Boston Society of Architects’ 2014 Design Awards Gala on January 29.
Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven took home an honor award for healthcare facility design. Director Cathy Lange accepted the ‘Hobson’ for the project team at last week’s ceremony.
In their remarks, the design jury noted how “the architect delivered with clean, simple, and timeless design… The exterior design is very sensitive, with arrays of windows, terracotta screens, and glass stair towers combining for an elegant urban expression.”
