2013 Houston facade detailThe University of Houston’s Health and Biomedical Sciences Building 1 was named “Best Higher Education Building” by the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) in the Institute’s 2014 PCI Design Awards.

The award celebrates the distinctive beveled facade of the clinical, research, and teaching facility for this Carnegie Tier 1 research institution and the smart design thinking behind it. Catching the sun as it plays across the building’s surface, the undulating precast concrete facade system is an innovative, high-value design solution that responds to challenges dictated by topography, program, and budget.

Carole WedgeShepley Bulfinch president Carole Wedge FAIA, LEED AP received the Award of Excellence at the 14th annual Women in Design Awards, which was hosted at the Architecture Boston Expo (ABX) this week.

Harvard Innovation Lab logoShortly after the buzz around the first anniversary of the opening of the Harvard Innovation Lab, Interior Design magazine announced more good news: a 2012 Best of Year (BOY) Merit Award for the Innovation Lab’s design in the Education category.

Since it opened in late 2011, the i-lab has quickly become a hub for entrepreneurs from across the campus. Ambitions for it are unbounded, as noted in an editorial in the Boston Globe in November 2012, “Success of Harvard’s i-lab could buoy the entire region.”

Graphic design award for Harvard Innovation Lab

Print magazine has selected the graphic design of the Harvard Innovation Lab as a winner in the 2012 Regional Design Annual, which has just been published. The design was the work of Shepley graphic designers Dan Vlahos and Erin Deeley.

The ‘Hi’ design establishes a distinctive identity and conveys a sense of welcome for the i-lab on Harvard’s Allston, Massachusetts, campus. IIDA design award for Woodruff Library

Shepley Bulfinch has won the “Single Space” category in the 2012 Library Interior Design Competition for the Learning Commons for Atlanta University Center’s Robert W. Woodruff Library. The biennial design award is jointly sponsored by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and the American Library Association (ALA).

The LINK received a Merit Award in Interior Design magazine’s Best of the Year (BOY) 2010 awards, announced in New York on December 3. The Phoenix, Arizona, mixed-use building, which was renovated in 2008, is home to Shepley Bulfinch’s Phoenix design studio.

Located at the heart of Phoenix Cultural District, the 8,000 square foot building is a model of adaptive reuse, with a renovation that re-purposed the structural shell of this two-story mid-century commercial structure and transformed it into building stock for the 21st century. Ashley Hall School wins design excellence award

The Library and Science Center at the Ashley Hall School in Charleston has received a 2010 Merit Award for Excellence in School Building and Design from CEFPI’s South Carolina chapter.

The center was dedicated in 2009, the centennial year for this independent girls’ school. The school’s rich history informed the project design, which drew inspiration from the proportion and detail of nearby McBee House, the campus’ iconic structure. merzproject_bshNEW YORK, NY – The stellar year for merzproject, a studio of Shepley Bulfinch, continued on December 3, when it was named one of the winners of Interior Design Magazine’s Best of 2009 in a celebration at the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
