Urban pediatric health center designed to make a difference

Childrens Hosp of Mich Specialty Ctr - DetroitChildren’s Hospital of Michigan’s Specialty Center in Detroit is designed and built to create a culture of wellness for a new generation of children in Detroit. That’s the gist of “An environment for healing,” a feature on the Center that appears in the October 2013 issue of CAM magazine. The Construction Association of Michigan profiled the Specialty Center as one of its Projects of the Year.

In his article in the August issue of Health Facilities Management, Bill Mead discusses the financial, physical, and operational factors to be considered when making decisions regarding the renovation/expansion or replacement of a hospital facility.

By way of example Bill presents the cases of the replacement campus for Sherman Hospital in Elgin, Illinois, and the bed tower expansion for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.

Healthcare clients come out on top in US News rankings

A number of Shepley Bulfinch’s current and recent healthcare clients came out high in the 2010 rankings in US News & World Report’s annual survey of US hospitals and pediatric hospitals. The survey ranks the top 30 adult and pediatric facilities in each of ten specialty areas.

Those honored in 2010 include Massachusetts General Hospital (a repeat in the survey’s ‘honor roll’); the University of Michigan Hospital and Health Centers; Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center; Lahey Clinic; and Yale-New Haven Hospital.
