Kanbar Campus Center wins design excellence award

The Kanbar Campus Center at Philadelphia University was one of four student centers to receive the 2007 Facility Design Award of Excellence at the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) annual conference in Atlanta last month.

Entries were judged not only on the basis of the facilities’ appearance, but also on the process used to arrive at the design and how the new or renovated facility has impacted the campus.

Design award for Hamline’s Anderson University Center

Hamline - south facadeShepley Bulfinch’s design of the Anderson University Center at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota has won a Facilities Design Award from the Association of College Unions International (ACUI), it was announced at ACUI’s annual conference last week.

“This award honors more than the design of the Anderson Center,” said Shepley Bulfinch project designer Luke Voiland. “It recognizes the value of a design and planning process that brought everyone to the table.”

Cornell's Africana Center wins NOMA award

Orlando, FL – Shepley Bulfinch and the Africana Studies and Research Center at Cornell University received a citation in the Awards of Excellence at the annual meeting of the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) on October 27. Ralph Jackson FAIA, the project’s Principal for Design, was present at the conference when the awards were announced.

Jurors called the Africana Center “spatially compelling” and called the project’s use of materials particularly powerful as a judging criterion. The Center uses brick patterns and textures to interpret African textiles. The Africana Center was one of four projects to be recognized with a citation. Yale-New Haven Hospital Gets Green Light for Cancer Center

BOSTON, MA — Yale-New Haven Hospital has received approval from the City of New Haven to proceed with the construction of its new, Comprehensive Cancer Center, designed by Shepley Bulfinch.

The 14-story, $430 million Yale-New Haven Cancer Center will reinforce Yale-New Haven Hospital’s reputation as a top-ranking cancer center and provide the region with a state-of-the-art diagnostic, treatment and research facility. The Center will include 112 private rooms, 12 operating rooms, radiology services, a women’s cancer center, and complementary medicine—providing a truly integrated and seamless patient experience. Interior Design honors for Phoenix Financial Center

2015 BOY award winner seal 150pxShepley Bulfinch’s renovation of the South Rotunda of the Phoenix Financial Center took home top honors in the 2015 Interior Design magazine Best of Year (BOY) Awards in the Designer’s Own Office category. Winners were announced at Interior Design’s Best of Year Gala in New York last week.

The Phoenix Financial Center was designed by Peruvian-born architect W.A. Sarmiento and completed in 1964, and today is one of the city’s most prominent mid-century buildings.
