BSA Committee Explores How Sharing Space and Resources Catalyzes Biotech Ventures

What is the relationship between space and innovation in the workplace? IT startups have been engaging in this conversation for years, leading to the creation of several successful co-working facilities. But what about other industries? Can the “incubator model” be re-imagined across entrepreneurial ventures to foster other successful innovative ecosystems?

BSA’s Committee for Research and Innovation Design overwhelmingly decided the answer is yes, at its inaugural meeting last week at LabCentral in Boston.

Graphic design award for Harvard Innovation Lab

Print magazine has selected the graphic design of the Harvard Innovation Lab as a winner in the 2012 Regional Design Annual, which has just been published. The design was the work of Shepley graphic designers Dan Vlahos and Erin Deeley.

The ‘Hi’ design establishes a distinctive identity and conveys a sense of welcome for the i-lab on Harvard’s Allston, Massachusetts, campus. Design underway for Harvard Innovation Lab

Design is now underway for the Harvard Innovation Lab (Harvard I-Lab), a campus-wide innovation incubator located on the Harvard Business School campus in Boston.

In announcing the project, Harvard President Drew Gilpin Faust said, “The importance of innovation cannot be overstated. It is also of utmost importance and great interest to our students and faculty, many of whom are inventors and entrepreneurs. The lab will foster team-based activities and deepen interactions among both aspiring and experienced innovators across the schools of Harvard.”

Chime In 4

Yesterday afternoon, after three long days of toiling away under the I-93 overpass between South Boston and the South End, the Shepley Bulfinch team presented their final design concept, “Chime In,” before an audience of hack-a-thon participants, volunteers, and interested spectators… and the judges selected Chime In for the Most Innovative Design award!
