Construction is now underway for LEVEL, the student apartment complex close to the University of Arizona in Tucson and the first high rise in the city’s new Main Gate overlay district.
Shepley Bulfinch is completing the 14-story building at 1020 Tyndall Avenue for Campus Acquisitions, one of the country’s leading developers of student housing. Shepley Bulfinch’s renovation of the South Rotunda of the Phoenix Financial Center took home top honors in the 2015 Interior Design magazine Best of Year (BOY) Awards in the Designer’s Own Office category. Winners were announced at Interior Design’s Best of Year Gala in New York last week.
The Phoenix Financial Center was designed by Peruvian-born architect W.A. Sarmiento and completed in 1964, and today is one of the city’s most prominent mid-century buildings.

UnCommon, the student housing complex in Eugene, Oregon, developed by CA Student Living and designed by Shepley Bulfinch, has received LEED Gold Certification from the US Green Building Council. This is CA’s first LEED Certified project and the latest in Shepley Bulfinch’s portfolio of highly sustainable buildings.

Shepley Bulfinch’s Arizona office is settling in to a new home in the South Rotunda of the iconic Phoenix Financial Center as the building prepares to mark its 50th anniversary.
On September 20, Shepley Bulfinch’s move was the subject of a major piece in the Arizona Republic, “Phoenix architects renovate, move in to Phoenix landmark.”

The development of new zoning in a sensitive central district adjoining the University of Arizona in Tucson was one of nine Pima County projects honored by the Metropolitan Pima Alliance at its annual Common Ground awards earlier this month. The Main Gate Overlay District received top honors in in the Public Policy category.
The new district establishes a zoning overlay that preserves historic structures within its boundaries while allow new growth and development with the density necessary for the project to succeed.
