Mario J. Vieira, AIA
I was born and raised in a secluded village on the island of Saint Michaels in the middle of the Atlantic. As a boy, I spent countless hours drawing and building models of a world that I envisioned beyond my own. But, visualization was never enough. I wanted others to encounter and experience my environments, so I became an architect.
I have always approached design with care—having seen first-hand the impact place can have on people—so concentrating on healthcare was natural. The core of good healthcare design remains its ability to provide for an extreme range of human needs and emotions without compromising practical requirements. Its constraints and complexity are merely part of the challenge. When managed appropriately, they are never a hindrance to creating good architecture that ultimately enhances the lives of all those who experience the spaces that we have envisioned.
