Creating learning spaces that users can continuously redesign

22 March 2016

SCUP North Atlantic Regional Conference, New York, NY

Janette Blackburn, AIA, Shepley Bulfinch

SCUP Evolving needs for new active, immersive learning spaces on college campuses are running headlong into limited budgets and limited space. Nowhere is the importance of flexible, immersive learning environments more important than at an institution dedicated to exploring and testing the boundaries of teaching and learning.

In this workshop at the SCUP North Atlantic conference, Janette is joined by Gary Natriello, Hui Soo Chae, and Brian Hughes of Teachers College Columbia to talk about the College’s new Learning Theater, which opens this year.

In their discussion, they share their interactive planning strategy and new space type to meet the challenges of space and money: a dynamic learning environment that can be continuously repurposed by the learners who occupy it. The Learning Theater maximizes the use of scarce resources and provides a dynamic venue for discovery and exchange.

Shepley Bulfinch is proud to be a long-standing Bronze-level sponsor of the SCUP North Atlantic region.
