Deconstructing storage: creating safe spaces for physical collections
SLA 2015 - Special Libraries Association annual conference, Boston, MA
Janette Blackburn, AIA, Principal, Shepley Bulfinch
For anyone looking to build a new physical storage space or upgrade an existing one, the options can seem overwhelming and sometimes unattainable with current budget constraints. While more and more collections are being digitized, many collecting institutions continue to struggle with the care and preservation of the physical items in their care.
This session will focus on three important areas of physical storage: building design and materials, pest and insect management, and digitization as a tool for preservation.
