2013 Houston facade detailThe design thinking behind the facade of the University of Houston’s Health and Biomedical Science Building is “More than skin deep,” as detailed in an online feature in the current issue of Texas Architect.

Speaking with writer Jack Murphy, Shepley Bulfinch architect Luke Voiland discussed the materiality of the facade, including the fritted glass and the articulated precast system that creates a series of shifting patterns of light and shadow as the sun crosses the sky.

The Health and Biomedical Science Building was dedicated earlier this year.
