Austin's New Central LibraryHow are public libraries evolving, and how do we design them today to accommodate changing demands and technologies?

Tackling that question was central to the design of the new Central Library for the city of Austin, Texas, which is featured in “Local Government Projects: Six Visionary Strategies” in the August issue of Building Design+Construction magazine.  As Shepley Bulfinch managing principal Sid Bowen notes in the article, “We want to the building to last 100 years, not just structurally, but functionally.”

The library, which was designed by a joint partnership of Shepley Bulfinch and Lake|Flato, broke ground in late May, and is scheduled for completion in 2016.
