Kanbar Campus Center, Philadelphia UniversityOne size doesn’t fit all. While the college union model has been successfully shaped to meet larger universities’ needs, the unique challenges of small schools are sometimes overlooked.

In this panel, Janette Blackburn discusses trends in small-school college union design, including the rise of fusion facilities that integrate diverse program elements and strategies for creating flexible spaces that can be modified without major renovation costs as needs evolve. She is joined by Tim Butler and Jim McLaughlin, who talk about operational responses to managing a college union with limited staff and budget and strategies for running facilities that are flexible and highly functional.
