Innovative approaches to designing a healing arts program

3 May 2012

Arts & Health: A Global View, Detroit, MI

Anne Garrity, Interior Designer, Shepley Bulfinch
Grace Serra, Art Advisor, Children's Hospital of Michigan
Bev Crider, Patient and Family-Centered Care Director, Children's Hospital of Michigan

Anne Garrity joins her clients from Children’s Hospital of Michigan/Detroit Medical Center to discuss the role of art in the healing environment at the annual conference of the Society for the Arts in Healthcare. She talks about the role of art in breaking down institutional imagery and the use of color in wayfinding, as well as the power of art created by pediatric patients and its part in helping children “tell their story.”

Shepley Bulfinch is working with Children’s Hospital of Michigan on the new Pediatric Specialty Center, which opens next month, and a renovation of existing clinical space in the Carls building.
