Construction milestone for Children’s Hospital of Michigan

Friday, 24 June 2011

In a ceremony earlier today at DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan, the final steel beam was raised to the top of the new Children’s Hospital of Michigan Specialty Center-Detroit.

Children’s Hospital of Michigan President Herman Gray, MD, provided an update on the specialty center’s progress. DMC President and CEO Mike Duggan joined Dr. Gray in signing the final beam. The program concluded with the traditional placement of the beam with a live evergreen tree on top of the new building.

Throughout the week, in commemoration of the hospital’s 125th anniversary this year, members of the community, physicians, nurses, and employees wrote well wishes and signed on the final beam to make their mark on this milestone in the hospital’s history.

The 106,500 square-foot specialty center is the first major expansion for the Detroit Medical Center central campus in nearly 30 years. The center will expand care for general pediatrics, pediatric specialties and rehabilitation services.

The facility was designed by Shepley Bulfinch in association with Integrated Design Solutions of Troy, Michigan. The DMC and Vanguard target completion for this project in early 2012.
