Citizen Schools team presents design concept to Boston mayor

Wednesday, 4 February 2009

BOSTON, MA – A team of students representing the Gavin Middle School in South Boston and Shepley Bulfinch presented their urban planning concepts to Boston Mayor Thomas Menino today, one of nine such teams taking part in the event. The presentation was the culmination of the students’ semester-long Citizen Schools Design and Development Apprenticeship.

The design of the Gavin-Shepley team project, the creation of a public park for the redevelopment of the Bayside Expo Center – was honored for its recognition of diversity at Citizen Schools’ December 15 student presentations held at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.

As part of the firm’s commitment to the community, Shepley Bulfinch has been a long-standing mentoring partner of Citizen Schools. Shepley staff volunteer their time to work with student teams on a weekly basis over the course of a semester to develop an architectural concept and to provide students with opportunities to learn more about architecture and design as a profession.
