Boston Business Journal – Elise Woodward on women in design

Friday, 24 October 2008

Principal Elise Woodward was quoted in an article on the evolving challenges facing women in architecture in the current issue of the Boston Business Journal.

The second woman architect to join the firm when she was hired in 1981, Elise served as a member and chair of Shepley Bulfinch’s Board of Directors She noted the firm’s commitment to a shift in leadership – and firmwide – demographics that have led to a virtually even gender balance among principals and staff as a whole.

The shift may be embodied in the recently completed Cardiovascular Center for the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor. Shepley Bulfinch’s project principals, the lead project contact at the university and the university president were all female.

Elise was recognized at Build Boston 2007, where she received a Women in Design award at a presentation honoring her and fellow recipient Jill Medvedow, director of the Institute of Contemporary Art.
