NEW HAVEN, CT – The construction of a 135,000 sf addition to Buley Library has been completed, marking a significant milestone in the renovation and expansion project for Southern Connecticut State University. Offices and books have been moved into the new wing so that the renovation of the existing 98,000 sf portion of the facility can begin. The entire project, which will transform the library into the intellectual hub of this commuter campus, is scheduled to be finished in 2010.
The renovation and addition will more than double the library’s size and quadruple overall seating capacity to about 1,600 seats, with an atrium connecting the addition and the original building. The addition includes two-story reading rooms with sweeping views, as well as group study rooms and increased office space. A temporary entrance to the building has been installed in the new wing of the building while the renovation to is under way. Once the project is finished, the former entrance will be restored.
Shepley Bulfinch is the project’s design architect, in association with Arbonies, King, and Vlock, PC of Branford, CT.
